Reasons:
The Printer is not connected properly to the Computer:

1.First Turn OFF the printer and computer both and please check that printer Interface cable is securely connected to the computer or not.
2.Check and Assure that Interface cable can match the specification with printer and computer.
3.Check that Interace cable is directly connected to the computer withoutpassing through any device like extension cable etc.
Your printer is not selected as the default printer:
Firstly, you need printer installation software to be install in your computer.Suppose you are using (Epson printer ) then you have to install Epson Printer installation software from epson printer driver website or by the DVD provided by manufacturer.After that you have to do these simple steps to set your printer as the default printer on you computer:
For Windows:
1.Go to the control panel then click on device and printers from there right click on epson printer icon then make it default printer.
For Mac OS X:
1.Make sure that correct epson printer driver is installed on the computer and it is selected as the default printer.
